Privacy Policy
Last updated:
Y2mate is built to need as little information about you as possible. This page explains in plain English what happens when you use it.
The short version
- You never need an account, so we don’t ask for your name, email address or password.
- We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which features are used. It sets cookies, but we never ask for your name or email, and no ad scripts are loaded.
- The links you paste are looked up through a third-party API.
- Nothing is stored beyond a short cache of public video information.
When you paste a link
When you submit a YouTube link, your browser sends the video’s ID to our server. Our server asks an outside YouTube data service (provided through RapidAPI) for the video’s public details: its title, channel, length, thumbnail and the list of available download links. We send only the video ID and, where available, a two-letter country code so the API can return links that work in your region. We do not send your IP address or any information that identifies you.
What we store
Public video information returned by the API is kept in our hosting provider’s edge cache for up to one hour, so repeat lookups are quicker. It is dropped sooner if the download links expire first. This cache contains no information about who requested the video.
We do not keep a history of the links you paste, and we do not store the videos or audio files themselves. Downloads go directly from YouTube’s servers to your device.
Thumbnails and downloads
After a lookup, the video thumbnail comes from YouTube’s image servers, and when you tap Download your browser fetches the file straight from YouTube. Those requests go directly from your browser to Google, which receives your IP address and browser details as it does whenever you watch YouTube. Google’s own privacy policy covers those requests.
Server logs
Like any website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes technical data such as IP addresses and request details in order to serve pages and keep the service safe from abuse. We do not use these logs to build profiles of visitors.
Children
Y2mate is not directed at children under 13. We don’t set out to collect personal information from anyone, of any age.
Your rights
Because we do not collect personal information through the tool, there is usually nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you email us, we use your message only to reply, and you can ask us to delete the conversation at any time.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Questions about privacy? Email [email protected].
